About Us

Cameron McMahan – Founder & CEO

Cameron McMahan was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. His father instilled in him a love of flying at a young age, teaching him to fly when he was just 2 years old, and making him one of the few second-generation instructors in the industry.

Cameron is incredibly passionate about flying and has done his fair share of competing and skydiving over his 11 years as a tunnel instructor. In leadership and trainer positions, he discovered his true calling – helping others become great teachers and sharing his love of bodyflight with the world.

Driven by his passion and imagination, Cameron set out to create a wind tunnel operation that would cater to people who, like him, love flying. With the invaluable support of his longtime friend and mentor, Ray Kubiak – a Flyaway alumni who brings a wealth of magic and wisdom to the project – the Flyaway team is now ready to turn this dream into a reality.

“I am so excited for the world to experience the magic of Flyaway. I truly believe the team and facility we have put together will change the world of flying forever. My commitment to the sport is to always stay true to the original vision, to the joy of flying, and to the people who make this sport so incredible. I can’t wait to fly with you.” – Cameron McMahan

Ray Kubiak – Vice President & Co-Founder

Ray Kubiak’s lifelong passion for flying began when he was just 8 years old, on a daycare field trip to Flyaway Las Vegas. As he watched the instructors play in the tunnel, one of them flew up to the window where Ray was standing, threw him a peace sign, and backflipped back into the wind column. This moment was the spark that ignited Ray’s fascination with bodyflight. Ray’s obsession with flying drove him to experiment with new body positions and movements at all hours of the night. His determination led him to discover multiple foundational flight skills that are still used today.

His hunger for challenge and growth pushed him to take up skydiving and competing in his free time, outside of his job as a tunnel instructor and trainer. Over the course of 25 years, Ray’s talent and reputation placed him in leadership roles, where he found a new sense of fulfillment. Ray realized that leadership and management are not the same thing, and after completing multiple leadership courses and working for Rapport Leadership International, he developed his own style of punk rock leadership. He went on to manage some of the best wind tunnels in the US.

Combining his love for flying with his passion for leadership, Ray has gained an unrivaled wisdom and understanding of the human element of the sport. He is passionate about putting the flyer first, whether it’s for customers or employees. Ray’s years of observation have given him the tools and information necessary to bring the secret ingredients to the next great leap in the sport of bodyflight.

“I am excited to be a key part of a purpose-built facility that is designed to serve flyers. Everyone from mom, dad, and the kids, to the high-level extreme athletes. I guarantee people who like flying, will LOVE flying at Flyaway.” – Ray Kubiak
